BlackBerry has just 3 percent market share in the U.S.
News - May 16, 2012
 |
Reuters reports that Android and iOS are gaining market share while BlackBerry suffers. According to the report, BlackBerry market share has dropped to 3% from 9% a year ago. If true, it's very said for RIM. I remember when I would get on a flight and everyone would be holding a BlackBerry. These days, I see many more iPhones than BlackBerrys.
The report also notes small gains for Microsoft's Windows Phone in Germany, Britain, France, and the United States....read more

Porsche designed BlackBerry wins Smartphone of the Year Award
News - May 15, 2012
 |
The Porsche designed BlackBerry P9981 has won the Plus X Award for Smartphone of the Year. We haven't heard much about the P9981 beyond a few press releases about how interesting it was that Porsche designed a BlackBerry. I have no idea how popular this phone is, but my impression is there aren't many of them and they are cost prohibitive to own. Do you think it deserves to be named the Smartphone of the Year for 2012?

RIM tries "Wake Up, Be Bold" campaign
News - May 07, 2012
 |
RIM has launched a new website that takes aim at Apple iPhone users. The Wake Up and Be Bold site is apparently trying to convince us that BlackBerry users are more serious for some reason. Taking a swipe at Apple's well known slogan the site says, BlackBerry users don’t just “think different,” they “do different.” Really?
The site continues, “You’re either here to leave your mark and eat opportunity for breakfast or you’re satisfied to just float through life like a cork in the stream.” Huh?
If you visit wakeupbebold.com you'll hear a vo...read more

RIM shares hit 8-year low
News - May 04, 2012
 |
RIM's stock has been slowly losing its value and yesterday it hit an eight year low. In afternoon trading on Thursday RIM's stock hit $11.92 per share. It hasn't been that low since 2004. And, the stock has dropped 15% in just the last 3 days, and RIM just showed off its latest BlackBerry 10 prototype this week. It looks like the investing world isn't too hot on Thorsten Hein's new announcement. Right now RIM's shares are sitting at around $12.06 per share.
RIM is placing its bets on BlackBerry 10, but that likely won't be enough. The ...read more

New BlackBerry 10 keyboard shown off at BlackBerry World 2012
News - May 01, 2012
 |
RIM CEO Thorsten Heins took to the stage at BlackBerry World 2012 to show off some of the new features of the upcoming BlackBerry 10. Most of the features did not seem all that impressive, but one of the things that caught my eye is the soft keyboard.
Most BlackBerry users choose BlackBerry because of the physical keyboard so not including one requires a huge leap of faith by RIM. They have the best QWERTY keyboard on a mobile phone today, but the new BlackBerry 10 devices will have a soft keyboard (at least at launch time).

This is the latest BlackBerry 10 developer phone. The photos come courtesy of CrackBerry Forums member Trippin who uploaded the photos to the forums. CrackBerry confirms that the photos shows a BlackBerry 10 Developer Alpha device, and attendees at BlackBerry Jam next week in Orlando will receive one. Rumor also has it that this phone is actually the BlackBerry Colt that never made it to market. Either way, this is not a phone that will ever make it to market. It will simply be used for developers so they can test their apps.
